When I was in college, I was approached to do commercials. Pretty cool right . . . until I was ripped off. They took my pictures, gave me a list of casting directors, took my money and said bye bye, with no follow up phone number. At the end of my senior year at LMU, I did a few internships, one of which was at a talent agency. At the end of my term, they offered me a job, starting their on-camera children’s department. I accepted happily and I was on my way attending showcases, theatre, acting classes, school productions. . . Funny thing, I looked the age of the kids I was recruiting for my department. I was the youngest person to become a licensed talent agent under SAG.

During my 25-year career, I started 2 children’s departments, which both grew into young adult departments, prepared kids for commercials, TV and film, negotiated on my client’s behalf (which was my favorite part), developed a ton of young talent, while educating their families, and reveled in the success and growth of countless actors. To name a few of my clients – Josh Hutcherson (Hunger Games), Sammi Hanratty (Shameless), Malcome David Kelley (Lost), Joy Lauren (Desperate Housewives), Jonathan Hernandez (Nick Freno Show), Cleavon McClendon (Straight Outta Compton, Hand of God), Danny Strong (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gilmore Girls,). Danny is currently a writer, creator and director of so many shows – Empire, Dopesick, and films The Butler and the Hunger Games Mockingjay, Part 1 and 2. He has won countless awards.

Remember that Casting Director list I got in college? I found it shortly after I started working with kids and discovered I knew every CD on that list personally. You just never know what you will accomplish when you find something that you love doing!
