We’ve all heard the saying, “clothes make the man”, but in a world with so much technology, so many varied resources and fabric alternatives, many people still fail to think about what or who makes the clothes. Clothes are function for many-- a requirement to leave the house and experience life. For others, clothes are a work of art, beauty, and an unspoken statement about oneself. **Cue Miranda Priestly’s sweater monologue in The Devil Wears Prada.** Either way, necessity or expression, consumers are left with a vast array of companies and brands to choose from- why not select a company that prioritizes both design and sustainability?
The concepts of “eating clean” and “clean beauty” have resonated across a variety of different ages and platforms, seeming to be a new sort of hot topic or buzz word. Yet, fewer people have implemented the same principles to their clothing selections. How unsustainable can a particular brand be? Find out for yourself by utilizing goodonyou.eco for some additional insight. Which bringsus back to the point of having it all- function and fashion, but making it earth-friendly.
We took the liberty of finding a quintessential women’s clothing brand with the following criteria: “good” or better sustainability rating, accessible price point, practicality for everyday women, and overall design. Originating in 2016, Vetta vettacapsule.com was at the top of our list as a “woman- owned business that was started with a mission to create beautiful, versatile clothing with a commitment to treating the earth and its inhabitants with dignity and respect”- talk about a business that you can look good and feel good getting behind!
Based in the United States, Vetta uses two primary factory locations- one in New York City and one in Los Angeles, both of which they visit regularly. The majority of the apparel line is crafted from Tencel, “produced by environmentally responsible processes from the sustainably sourced natural raw material wood”, organic cotton, and deadstock fabric “(leftover fabric that we save from the landfill and give a new life)”. The brand is also committed to sustainability in its packaging and labeling. All packing items- “poly bags, inserts, and packing slips are made from 100% recycled materials, and our boxes are made from recycle and FSC certified materials.” According to goodonyou.eco, Vetta scored a 4 out of 5 in each of their three categories- planet, people, and animals, with an overall 80% rating. Additionally, they earned a Global Organic Textile Standard Certificate and a Global Recycled Standard Certificate.
Vetta offers additional features/services than your run of the mill online boutique. Start your shopping experience off with their 2 minute online, capsule style survey. In the course of this assessment, you will consider your daily wears and the styles that you gravitate toward the most. Vetta assesses your answers and recommends a particular capsule collection for you to gear your shopping experience.
Does this mean that you are eternally bound to a single style or capsule collection? No! Does it mean that you need to purchase a capsule collection in its entirety? No!
Focusing on the idea of a capsule collection, Vetta presents six different collections, with a total of five pieces in each collection. The idea is that the pieces can be mixed, matched, and combined to create about a month’s worth of 30 different outfits. The secret is that many of the pieces have removable drapes and sashes, and can be worn backwards or inside out, to provide a different look or pattern. Looking for a combination of styles, from different capsule, you also have the option to “build a capsule” that best suits you, your lifestyle, and overall fashions sense. Mind. Blown. We know!
Servicing the United States and internationally, Vetta ships using the United States Postal Service, ships for free, and accepts returns and exchanges within 30 days of order fulfillment. Their policies are standard, but their customer service goes above and beyond. They also provide the added benefit of quantity discounts as your purchase size increases. More product, less money? That’s something we can always get behind!
As we approach the celebration of Earth Day on April 22, we are happy to spread the word about such an amazing company, combining the opportunity for women to access fashion in an environmentally friendly way. As Rachel Zoe said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak” and we believe that Vetta’s products speak for themselves! We’ll be on the lookout for the creative and savvy ways you style your new capsule. 30 outfits? Challenge. Accepted.
