Investing in Myself… A Truly Luxurious Purchase
by The Chaos Manager
Some women love purses. I think of them as black holes for gum wrappers, receipts and crap my kids hand me that they no longer want to hold. Actually, come to think of it, a purse is the same kind of catch-all as the cup holders in the middle console of my car - except this one hurts my shoulders after an hour walking around the mall. Other women covet shoes - namely those with bright red soles. Yeah, pass. Give me my Uggs for the winter, Steve Madden sneakers for running errands, Havaianas flip flops for the beach and a pair of New Balance for working out. My feet work hard and they want to be coddled, not pinched and squeezed into unnatural positions. Jewelry is special and diamonds are a girl’s best friend and all, but I’m not showy and find it annoying to have to remove necklaces and bracelets every night before bed in preparation for my routine 5:30am wakeup for the gym. Oh, so that’s why I have bags under my eyes. If only there was something to do about those….
Ah ha! Lightbulb moment. What luxury item could I actually spend $2500 on that makes me feel special? Short of getting Botox injections or more invasive surgery around my eyes, the quickest fix to make this woman feel ten years younger would be a gorgeous pair of expensive sunglasses that perfectly fit my face. Sunglasses give me confidence, they add some weird air of mystery, and actually make me feel happier.
Besides, that, there’s the health value of protecting my eyes from the sun’s harmful rays and preventing squinting and face scrunching. With the right pair of tinted shades, I can roll my eyes without getting myself into trouble and rest my eyes without anyone realizing. Sunglasses actually help reduce social anxiety. Wow, I believe this so wholeheartedly that I could star in an infomercial for this luxury accessory!
Forget the cheap pairs that bend and break as I’ve never wasted even a dollar on those. The $200 pairs should last more than a season, but easily lose their shape too. I’m talking about an investment pair of sunglasses. The ones that you care about
enough to carefully place back in their case once they’re off your face. The ones that you wouldn’t dream of placing in a bag near keys in fear that they’d scratch. The ones that you just don’t hand to your kids when you want them to smile for a picture, but the sun is their eyes. (Reposition those children to face another way!) The pair that I covet is The Signature C de Cartier Sunglasses.
Described on the Cartier website as “smooth golden-finish brown wood, brown lenses”, these glasses are sexy and valuable. The Signature C collection is simple, sophisticated and made of precious materials. These sunglasses are expertly crafted in a beautiful design that is sleek and elegant, and, to my delight, isn’t covered in logos or letters or diamonds. They aren’t for other people to stare at. I don’t care about that. They are for me. I’m the one who will put them on and walk with some extra confidence in my step. I’m the one who will be wearing them to keep the sun out of my face, the glare from my windshield, hell, the clouds from looking too cloudy. So why am I being so lavish and spending thousands on a pair of sunglasses? Look at it this way: I’m willing to spend $2500 to feel like a million bucks. Sounds like a worthwhile investment to me and in myself! And, hell… they are freaking Cartier after all!
