Daredevils Unite

You know the saying, “Sometimes you need a vacation from your vacation?” This certainly holds true in regards to the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup destination of New Zealand. When you have the opportunity to experience new countries, cultures, and opportunities, why not take it? We would be doing our readers a disservice if we didn’t share some highlights and “must sees” of New Zealand. Whatever your interests, New Zealand has so much to offer both tourists and locals alike.
New Zealand is ultimately divided into a North and South island, with the North more comparable to many major cities and business districts. Amongst the North island are the cities of Auckland, Hamilton, and Wellington, where matches from the Women’s World Cup will take place at Eden Park Stadium, Waikato Stadium, and Wellington Regional Stadium, respectively. While you’re there, take time to slow down a bit- explore some of the cuisine in New Zealand’s capital, Wellington, and wind down by the Pacific Ocean, Tasman Sea, or Waiheke Island.
Change up your pace and enjoy the natural beauty that the South Island has to offer. From rural drives through green grass to the majestic splendor of the glaciers, your eyes will have so much to feast on.
Although the weather is slightly colder than in the North, the South is known to have a different “vibe” and provides a more intimate and nature-based experience.
Get Outdoors
From hiking to beaching to stargazing, New Zealand has it all and more. Known for its unique beauty and
vast opportunity, Fiordland National Park’s Milford Sound offers astounding views, rejuvenating
waterfalls, and an array of wildlife. Short on time or want to sit back and relax? Take a boat cruise or push your way through the waters by kayak! For those slightly more adventurous, get your toes wet and swim or dive with the marine life. Whether in the water or above, be sure to look out for marine mammals that are exclusive to New Zealand, including Hector’s dolphins, rare beaked whales, New Zealand sea lions, and New Zealand fur seals/kekeno.
Adventure Seekers
Disclaimer—this may not be fun for the whole family, but take advantage of the “parent time off” and let your inner child play!
If adventure is what you are looking for, you have arrived at the right destination. From rock climbing to canyoning to abseiling/rappelling, New Zealand’s many rock faces and mountain peaks offer thrill seeking opportunities to jump, dive, and climb. Looking to “heighten” your experience? What about trying sky diving, bungee jumping, or zip lining? Adrenaline junkies rejoice, but be sure to take in the amazing views while you’re out there! Many visitors even consider it to be a rite of passage to take a leap of faith while visiting. Prefer something a little closer to the ground? Give jet boating, water rafting, off roading, or caving a try. These experiences provide a view of New Zealand in a new, sometimes slightly colder and darker, but only further prove what amazing attractions this small country has to offer.
Culture
The Maori Culture is an intricate part of the lives of locals of New Zealand. They apply the principles of “manaakitanga” meaning to extend love and compassion to others, into their daily lives. This includes, but is not limited to, welcoming guests and providing remarkable hospitality. Allow yourself to be swept up in the unique cultural experiences of the country through the food, language, and performing arts/dances. The extensive and rich cultural past and traditions help continue to keep New Zealand true
to its roots and give visitors the opportunity to recharge and rethink their lifestyle and choices.
With so much to offer, it is hard not to view New Zealand as a land of new and refreshing opportunity. Alongside the experience of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, it is literally the trip of a lifetime. Take the family, take a friend, but be sure to take it all in. This trip is one that your friends will be “jumping” to join in on.
