Interview By 11 Year Old 'Opal'
April’s woman of the month is Ali Simone. She owns a dance business named Acrodance Academy and her studio hosts a variety of dance classes for children and adults along with fun activities for the students. I have danced in her studio for about six months and I have enjoyed every second of it, even when it was challenging.
Ms. Simone has always wanted to be a teacher and work with children. She originally started off her career by working mostly in education as a teacher and preschool director. But seeing acrobatic students do risky techniques while dancing made her change her mind to become a dance teacher. So she combined her love for dancing and children and started her business in hopes of teaching students the correct techniques to avoid harm to their bodies.
After opening her studio, one of the biggest challenges she faced was the pandemic. She stated, “The pandemic was definitely a hard challenge. We had to switch everything online and drop the prices so that families could afford it.” It was a truly difficult time to get through, but she said that with all of the challenges that she has faced, passion and drive helped her through it. Today, she has a successful and growing dance studio in West L.A.
Ms. Simone is really proud of the community that she has created for kids and adults. She wants to keep her studio a healthy place for her students. Usually dancers have a lot of pressure on themselves, but Ms. Simone finds ways to help students push really hard with full effort, without putting them under pressure to the point where it is risky to their mind and body. Her studio is a place where dancers feel safe, loved, and supported. She helps students build confidence while being challenged. Ms. Simone is someone who encourages her students to be the best they can be. She is an amazing dance teacher and role model for both adults and children, girls and boys.
