"To earn her promotion InaMinute had to write a story about a designer that inspires her. I gave her several choices including fashion...and her choice surprised both myself and her mom."

InAMinute’s Favorite Roller Coaster and It’s Dream Designer
“AHH!” “Swoosh!!” These are some of the noises that you hear on a roller coaster! When I first look at roller coasters I always think about the height, color, how many drops and loops it has and what it's made of like steel or wood. I also say to myself, “I can’t wait to go on that when I get taller!” The roller coaster that is most interesting to me is Kingda Ka at Six Flags because it's SO tall. It’s actually the tallest ride in the world at 456 feet and the fastest roller coaster in North America! It also has another roller coaster, Zumanjaro, attached to it. Since I’m a daredevil, I like big drops and being scared on roller coasters.
The climb up shoots riders up really fast at 90 degrees straight up and the drop down has a spiral that twists. As soon as the ride goes down, it quickly bumps riders onto a large hump from all of the momentum it had going down. The top speed is 128 miles per hour and the ride is over in just 50 seconds.
The engineer who designed Kingda Ka is Werner Stengel. He started designing roller coasters almost 60 years ago and has been involved in the design making for about 500 roller coasters around the world. Mr. Stengel is a German engineer who started his own company called Stengel Engineering. He helped design the first looping roller coaster and his knowledge about science helped make rides with loops more comfortable for riders. He retired in 2001 after winning lots of awards and honors for his designs, but Stengel Engineering still works on designing new roller coasters.
"This summer, I’m finally going to be tall enough to ride Kingda Ka and I can’t wait to hear myself scream!" InaMinute
