Celebrating Moms Who Cook Food We Love

Winning Poems

"Your cooking is oh so tasty,

And you are the opposite of hasty.

You cook with your nose,

And it always knows, when it is time to eat.

Unless you’re cooking meat, then it’s bound to overheat."

Ben, 7th Grade

"Mom is the best to teach me....

Mom and I are at the stove making food that strengthens me

Garlic and olive oil are always the key, because this is what mom teaches to me

Sautéing onions brings taste to thee, but it always makes someone cry which could be me.

You can add anything from here and the result will be one that can please all

Sharing this moment with my mom I will remember forever especially when I am big and tall

I will then be the mom and my kids will be able to learn it all"

Jaden, 8th Grade

"The kids and I don't mean to be rude

But we're concerned about Mom's idea of food

Kale in a smoothie? "Macrobiotic"?

It's enough to make our family psychotic.

We know she wants us to feel healthy and great

But last night we prayed after we ate.

We love her to death, and know she loves us

So we've secretly changed the recipes that bug us

Hated items like brussel sprouts and cauliflower

Fell off the grocery list and finally lost their power

This is all in love and in endless compromise --

Now I'm taking the family out for cheese burgers... and fries."

Olivia, 7th Grade

"Happy mothers day, this short poem is for you,

We adore you mummy for everything you do,

We love your cooking from perogies to stew,

Enjoying fresh fruit, lots of vegetables and protein,

It all tastes so great while we’re in quarantine."

Radley, 6th Grade

"Refrigerator Surprise is our most common dish,

It is quite creative, even with fish.

Not only that but it is always so healthy,

Which is better than any old recipe.

So best cook award!"

Shay, 6th Grade
