The inspirational woman I chose for March’s “We Use Our Voice for Good” is Christine Conradt, one of my mom’s best friends. Christine is a writer, director, producer, and someone who I look up to. Christine’s career was not one she planned on when growing up in Nebraska, but she is very successful doing what she loves today.
In middle school, she originally wanted to be an ichthyologist. But, in her junior year of high school, Christine received a brochure from the University of Southern California which listed screenwriting as a major. So she applied for the film school, and got in.
Over the course of her career, she has worked on over sixty movies as the writer, director, or producer. She has done so well that she has even won an award for one of her movies! She not only writes films, but she also writes young adult books too. She offers workshops teaching others how to write scripts, as well. When I asked her what the most important factor behind her success is, she stated “perseverance.” She said that most people give up on the way because screenwriting takes so much time, so if you find a way to stick to it, you will succeed.
But Christine also knows that it is important to have fun outside of your career. She enjoys traveling and has been to 17 countries so far. She does a lot of good things outside of her career too. In fact, when asked what she was most proud of, she said, “The people who I have formed relationships with and helped. I try to donate to charities and help people whenever I can. It’s really nice to see those people that I’ve helped move forward in their own lives and their own careers, and be happier healthier people.” She is an inspiring writer, traveler, director, and producer and I look forward to learning more from her.
